Westfield – Richard John Breton, 81, devoted husband and father passed away peacefully at home Sunday surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born May 7, 1936 in Chicopee to the late Joseph Arthur Breton and Mildred Elizabeth (Bushey) Finan. He grew up in Chicopee where he met his wife, married and then moved to Agawam, where they resided for 35 years, and later moving to Westfield in 1999. He was very active in model railroading, Boy Scouts, church activities, and his most recent love of researching the family genealogy. He enjoyed playing cards and bingo with his many friends and helping many of those in need. He was a communicant and Eucharist minister to Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Irene L. (Bouchard) Breton, and his children Jeffrey J. Breton and his wife Doreen (Knowles) of Westport, James R. Breton and his wife Patricia Brennan of Feeding Hills, Judi A. Kuhn and her husband Robert of Orange, NH, John P. Breton of West Springfield, and Jeanne M. Breton and her wife Tori Sperry of Granby, MA. He was the cherished Pepere to Shay Pearce, Jude Breton, Kiera Breton, August Kuhn, and Trinity Sperry. He was predeceased by his two brothers Francis and Edward Breton, as well as two sisters Eileen Chouinard and Anne Marie Gorajec. Calling hours for Richard will be Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 9:30AM – 11:00AM, at Westfield Funeral Home and Cremation, 4 Princeton Street, Westfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30AM at Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament, 120 Holyoke Road, Westfield. Burial to follow with full military honors at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. The family would like to give a special thank you to Baystate Hospice for the love and care they gave Richard in his final days.
