Anita Sainio Macia, Nete, (Nana) of Chester Mass, passed away peacefully on Friday October 22, 2021.
She was born in Chester Mass on December 30, 1924, to the late Ida (Kaukonen) and Arvo Sainio.
She was predeceased by her brother Veikko Sainio and sister Ann Marie Sainio.
Anita was a graduate of the old Chester High School and retired from HB Smith at the age of 86.
Anita is survived by her husband of 67 years Burton Macia, (Poppy), who was her devoted caretaker.
Nete (Nana) is survived by her loving niece Karen Avery, great-niece Kiirsten Cooper, and Steven Cooper her great-nephew Erik Pedersen, his wife Suzie Pedersen, her beloved great-great nieces and nephews Aliisa Cooper Mazaik her husband Mike Mazaik, Nicholas Cooper, Shane Cooper and Ava and Christopher Pedersen.
Her niece Sharen Engwer predeceased her on August 15, 2021, and Karen’s husband George Avery in 2012.
Anita loved her family, and spending time with them and teaching the Finnish traditions taught to her by her parents.
Anita loved all animals and would help any animal in need. She loved to golf and telling the story of her hole-in-one at East Mountain Country club.
Burton and Anita liked to watch the Redsox baseball team play on TV, listen to music, and eat ice cream in the evenings.
Anita was the last full-blooded Finnish person still alive in Chester, something she was extremely proud of.
Per her wishes, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Westfield Homeless Cat Project 1124 E Mountain Rd, Westfield, MA 01085 in Anita’s memory.
