 Carl Randall Davenport, 82, died Tuesday, March 6, 2018, in Boston. He was born May 18, 1935 in Eldorado, Illinois to Carl R Davenport Sr, and Virginia Watson Davenport. They preceded him in death. He graduated from Eldorado Township High School and went on to serve in the Army before going to work for IBM, where he was employed as a systems engineer for 35 years. He was an avid sportsman, loving to hunt with his bird dogs, and trap shoot with his many friends. He was a gear-head who loved to race his Mustang back in the day, and tinker on cars later in life. He enjoyed projects around the house, building decks and staining furniture. He could usually be found walking his dog “Lilly” or relaxing in his chair. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sue Davenport of Wilbraham; three daughters, Dixie Gottstein and husband Jerry of Springfield, Illinois, Jennifer Harpole and husband Danny of Evansville, Indiana, Debbie Davis and husband Ken of Columbus, Ohio and his son, Michael Davenport of Springfield, Massachusetts, five grandchildren, Amber Sabin and husband Scott, Daniel Davis and wife Amy, Jaime Emig and husband Craig, Kevin Hatfield and wife Carrie, and Jessica Gottstein. He has five great grandchildren, Ava Sabin, Jack Sabin, Calvin Davis, Theo Emig and Isabelle Emig. He’s also survived by his brother Brian Davenport and his wife Mary Ann of Gold Canyon, Arizona, Danny Dempsey who he thought of as his first son, and his wife Lori of St. Stephen, NB and countless nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones. Calling hours for Carl will be Sunday, March 11th from 1:00PM-4:00PM at WESTFIELD FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION, 4 Princeton Street, Westfield. A Celebration of Life will take place at 4:00PM. Burial will take place in Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carl’s name to the American Cancer Society, 59 Bobala Rd, Holyoke, MA 01040.
