DURWOOD "STONEY" STONE

Westfield – Durwood A. Stone (Stoney), 79, passed away on August 4, 2022 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. 

Stoney was born on March 3, 1943, in Springfield, MA to the late Basil and Catherine (Daw) Stone.  He attended Springfield Schools and  proudly served his country in The United States Army as a Specialist 4th Class – Medic.  Stoney retired from Westfield Grinding Wheel after 40+ years of service. 

Stoney’s passion was working on cars. It was well known that he enjoyed taking cars apart much more than putting them back together.  He enjoyed fishing although he rarely caught anything other than a tree branch and he would often take in the sights of the riverbank after falling into the water. Stoney enjoyed summer camping with his family throughout the Northeast and Pennsylvania especially in the Amish country.  In his spare time, Stoney enjoyed watching his many favorite shows on T.V.

In addition to his parents, Durwood was predeceased by his brothers Ronald Stone and his wife Alberta and William Stone and his wife Gloria, and his brothers in law James Mackay and William Sullivan.

Durwood is survived by his wife of 58 years Nancy (Humason) Stone of Westfield, MA, his son Timothy Stone and his wife Heather of Westfield, MA, his daughter Sherri Gelina and her fiance Roland Dion of Port Orange, Florida, his sisters Carolyn Mackay and Melody Sullivan both of Westfield, Ma.  He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Mark Gelina II, Cameron Gaj, Caylin Stone, Katiann Stone, and Emily Stone, and his great-grandson Braiden Gelina, as well as many other family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at 3:00 PM at Chester Baptist Church, 14 Middlefield Road Chester, MA 01011.  All are invited to attend.
