Donald "Chick" Watson Sr. Obituary

Donald Everett Watson, Sr. of Vero Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 11, 2021. He was known to many by his nickname as “Chick.” He was born on December 18, 1930 in Huntington, MA to the late James William Watson and Ada Harriett Grossmith. Donald and his wife raised their five children in Huntington later moving to Westfield, MA after retiring, spending the winters in Vero Beach. Vero Beach became his full time residence for the last eight years. Donald was employed by Texon, Inc. in Russell, MA forty years until his retirement in 1991. He was married to his sweetheart Nettie May Pease for sixty-one years, who pre-deceased him in 2011. Growing up he was active in sports, playing baseball and softball for the hill towns. He loved watching his Red Sox’s. His greatest pride, joy and accomplishment were his children and grandchildren. Oh how he loved holding his grand babies. Donald is survived by his five children, Susan Watson of Northampton MA, Diane Sakaske and her husband Stephen of Chester MA, Kenneth Watson and his husband James Hutchins of Vero Beach FL, Nettie Lemme and her husband Karl of Kennesaw GA and Donald Watson, Jr. and his wife Tiffany of Vero Beach FL. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Chick was predeceased by his grandson Henry “Hank” Diemer in 1984 and his two brothers Ernest “Buster” Watson and James Watson. A graveside service will be held at Norwich Bridge Cemetery in Huntington on October 4th at 11:00. Westfield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital 516 Carew Street, Springfield,MA 01104.
