WORONCO - George DePina, 77, passed away peacefully on December 1 at Noble Hospital.
George was born on September 25, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY to the late George DePina and Anna (Niemczynski) Matthews.
He joined the United States Marine Corps at age 18 and proudly served for 4 years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam.
After years of working in sales, George found his true calling as a fitness trainer and spent the last 20 years training and encouraging seniors to pursue lifelong fitness. He retired from the Glenmeadow Retirement Community in 2019 and continued to work with individuals and small groups until 2023. He loved living with nature and spent many hours gardening and enjoying the sunshine, reading, and watching movies. But his greatest joy in life came from his family.
George is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Valerie (Curran) of Woronoco, son Kevin of West Springfield, grandson Alexander of West Springfield, and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
