James "Jimmy" Moran Jr. Obituary

James “Jimmy” M. Moran Jr., passed away peacefully at home on Friday October 30, 2020.  Jim was born on May 15, 1956 in Springfield MA, son to James M. Moran Sr., and Veronica (Deegan) Gloster.  Jim was a graduate from Springfield Tech High School in 1974 and later graduated from STCC for Respiratory Therapy and went on to work at Mercy Hospital, where he met many life-long friends.  From there he moved on to manage several Respiratory rehab facilities throughout Massachusetts. He especially enjoyed this time working with the elderly, as he loved getting to know them and listening to their remarkable life stories.

Some of Jim’s favorite times were the summers he spent on Cape Cod with his family. He also loved to travel.  One of his most cherished memories was a trip to Ireland with his family & father-in-law, Joe Hoare, during which he was able to explore County Kerry where his own father grew up. Jim loved celebrating his Irish heritage and especially St. Patrick's Day.

Jim particularly loved time spent with friends and family. He enjoyed cooking and hosting impromptu dinner parties, sharing stories and was a true master of the “dad joke.” His smile and laugh were contagious, warm and genuine and his light-hearted sense of humor filled a room. He was also an avid sports fan, particularly of the Patriots, Bruins and Red Sox.

Above all, Jim was a devoted, loving and proud husband and father. He was his children’s number one sports fan and if he wasn’t on the sideline coaching, he was on the opposite side observing and encouraging.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Pauline (Hoare) Moran, his children; Seamus Moran and his wife Taryn of Mystic, CT, Brian Moran, and Kaitlyn Moran, and his mother Veronica Gloster.  He was the cherished “Poppy” to Harper and Hayden Moran.  He was the caring brother to Maryenda Moran, Joanne Moran, and Jane Bellefleur and her husband Danny, brother-in-law to Noell & Timothy Somers, Carol Dunphy & Rex Cunningham and Uncle to many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his favorite walking companion, “Maisie.” Jim was predeceased by his father James Sr., and his sisters; Laura Cunningham, Patti Ianello, and Kim Moran.

Jim's family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at Fresenius Kidney Care but especially Val, Jessica & Dr. Landry and also his PCP Dr. Moskovitz for his assistance these last few months.

Friends and family are invited to a Liturgy of Christian Burial on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 11AM at St. Mary’s Parish, 30 Bartlett Street in Westfield.  A private burial will take place at a later date. A celebration of Jim’s life will be hosted by his family when Covid restrictions are lifted. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim’s memory to St. Edmund’s Retreat Enders Island P.O.Box 399 Mystic CT 06355.  To express condolences to the family, please visit Jim’s tribute page at www.westfieldfuneralhome.com.
