Joseph Brzys II Obituary

Joseph (Joe) Peter Brzys II, lost his battle with Covid-19 on Monday, April 20, 2020. Joseph was born September 17, 1944 in Westfield, son of the late Joseph and Jennie (Wojtkiewicz)Brzys.

Joe was a graduate of St.Mary’s High School and received a Bachelors degree from Westfield State in 1970. Joe served as a medic in the Massachusetts Army National Guard obtaining the rank of SP5 and later he became the Director of Benefits at Baystate Health Care from 1970 until his retirement in 2006. Outside of work Joe loved golf, served as the Chairman of the Board for the Orchards Golf Club for several years, was an avid reader, and loved going out to dinner with family and friends. He also served on the Board of Directors for The Westfield Boys and Girls Club and United Cerebral Palsy Association while also being involved in numerous other charitable organizations in the area.

Joe is survived by his beloved children Kathleen Brzys of Westfield, Sarah and her husband Cory Perry of Braintree, James and Heather Tapley of Farmington, CT, and Darren and Shannon Tapley of Wallingford, CT. He was the caring brother to Jane Brzys and her long time partner Joseph Legenza of Westfield. He was a loving grandfather to Jacob VanHeynigen, Charlotte and Catherine Perry, Charlie, Clare Abigail, Bree and Taylor Tapley. Joe adored all of this grandchildren and was always happiest when he was able to spend time with them.
The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Mass Mutual Wing, Daley 6 team, Case Managers and the Palliative Care Team at Baystate Medical Center. During these unprecedented times your compassionate care meant more to us then you can know since we were unable to be there to comfort him. Due to the current situation, we are planning on doing services at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in Joe’s name can be made to The Carson Center 77 MIll Street Westfeild MA 01085.
