Joseph A. Sanctuary Sr.

Joseph A. Sanctuary, Sr., passed away peacefully at home on March 26, 2021.   Joe was born on March 18, 1951 in Northampton to the late Eugene and Doris(Dewey) Sanctuary.    He was raised and educated in Northampton and was a graduate of Smith Vocational High School.  He honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corp and the United States Army National Guard.  He enjoyed visiting his cousins in Worthington and sledding with car hoods with his brothers and sisters.  Joe was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and camp with his wife at Forest Lake, NH.  But most of all his family was the most important to him.  Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years Freddie M. Sanctuary, Joseph A. Sanctuary Jr., of Blandford, Eugene Sanctuary and his wife Angela of Granville, and Cheryl Sanctuary and her fiancée Thomas Bargalla Jr., of Springfield.  He was the cherished Papa to Elleigh, Hunter, Kaleigh and Forrest.  He will be dearly missed by his siblings James, Gwen, Jeff, Jay, Jon, many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends, and his pup Brandie.  Joe is predeceased by his parents, his sisters Gloria and Gail, his brother Jerry, and dogs Abby, Spot and Sadie.  The family would like to thank Western and Central Mass. Hospice, especially nurse Mary Anne , the Leeds Veterans Hospital, and West Haven Veteran Hospital for their kind and passionate care of Joseph. The funeral for Joe will be Monday, April 5th from 11-1PM at Westfield Funeral Home and Cremation, 4 Princeton Street in Westfield,  followed by a burial with military honors at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.  To express condolences to the family, please visit www.westfieldfuneralhome.com
