Leona Frances Leveille, age 97, passed away peacefully at home in Monson. Leona was born in Conway, Massachusetts on February 3, 1922 to Oliver and Ruth(LaCrosse) Plant. After graduating from high school she achieved her life long dream of becoming a nurse. She attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield and became a registered nurse. During WWII she worked at a hospital in Washington DC for a few years before returning to Massachusetts where she met her future husband, Archie. They were married for over 40 years when he died on November 15, 1987. Leona worked many years as a nurse, including Wing Memorial hospital, the Monson school nurse, Monson Development Center and Palmer Nursing home from which she retired in 1984. After retiring, she enjoyed going to Sanibel Island in Florida every fall for a few weeks. Her whole life she always cared for family and friends. Leona is the last survivor of her siblings, Mary, Theresa and Oliver, Jr..
Leona leaves behind her children Dennis and his wife Karen of Bath, Maine. Charles of Palmyra, Virginia. Richard with whom she lived and lovingly cared by. Cheryl and her husband Richard of Sturbridge. And she also leaves behind her grandchildren: Justin, Amanda, Michael, Emily, Geoffrey, Dane and Grant. And 3 great grandchildren: Samantha, Charles and Henry.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff from Baystate Hospice for the excellent care our mother received during her last days. And a special recognition to Jean Miller who stepped in to help when needed. And to our cousin Gail Hayward who always was available to lend a helping hand and heart. Thank you all.
