Richard William Shays

Feeding Hills – Richard William Shays, 58, passed away Monday surrounded by his loving family.  Richard was born in Springfield on November 10, 1957, to the late William and Frances (Fornauf) Shays.  Richard was a graduate from Springfield Technical in 1975. Upon graduation he served in the Armed Forces. He was well known and respected in the truck repair industry for many years. Richard was a hard working family man. His children and grandchildren meant everything to him. He was quite the handy man that could fix anything.  He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, camping with his family, and woodworking. He is survived by his loving children Timothy Shays and his wife Susan of Springfield, Theresa Badillo and her husband Ramon of Holyoke, his nephews he guided through life Pete Megazzini Jr. of Webster, and Alan Megazzini of Windsor, CT, his cherished grandchildren, beloved nephews, nieces and his caring sisters Frances, Shirley, Susan, Patricia and Pamela.  He was predeceased by his brothers Daniel and Robert Shays.  There will be calling hours Saturday from 4-7PM at WESTFIELD FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION, 4 Princeton Street, Westfield, followed by a Funeral Home Service at 7PM.  There will be a private burial with full military honors at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Richard’s memory to Shriners Children’s Hospital, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
