It is with profound sadness that the family of Sergey Markevich announce his peaceful passing in his home on Monday, June 6th at the age of 53 years.
Sergey was born in Krivoy Rog, Ukraine. He joined the military at age 18 and served until the fall of the USSR. He immigrated to Massachusetts with his wife and young daughter in 1999. He was a cross country semi-truck driver for 10 years and enjoyed the quietness that came with driving long distances in the night. He particularly liked Flagstaff, AZ. In the later years of life, he was employed with Prolamina/ProAmpac. He had planned to retire with them. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, fixing anything and everything mechanical, finding a good deal on Craigslist and 80s heavy metal (AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd).
Sergey will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 30 years, Larisa; children, Anastasia and Mark; brother, Viktor; sister-in-laws Olga (Khimich) and Tanya; nieces Inna (Radkovets) and Julia (Kulyak); nephews Bogdan and Alex and numerous other family members and friends in America and Europe.
Sergey was predeceased by his parents, Nikolay and Nadezhda; and both sets of grandparents.
Flowers are welcome. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with financial burdens.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10am on Monday, June 13th, at Westfield Funeral Home, 4 Princeton St, Westfield, MA. Followed by burial at Pine Hill Cemetery, 140 W Silver St, Westfield, MA.
